On 11th September, 1967, The Beatles commenced their Magical Mystery Tour with a two-hour delay while the bus was still being decorated. So, after waiting on Allsop Place, near Central London's Baker Street underground station, Paul snuck off to nearby Soho with assistant Mal Evans and returned with uniforms for the driver Jolly Jimmy (Derek Royle) and courier Buster Bloodvessel (Ivor Cutler, next to Paul in the colour photo).

The bus finally departed at around 12:45PM with 43 members of the cast and crew who were each handed £5 by Neil Aspinall to cover food expenses for the week. John, George and Ringo then climbed aboard in Virginia Water, Surrey - near their homes - before filming started on the coach and during a lunch break at the Pied Piper restaurant in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

As the bus approached the Royal Hotel at The Den in Teignmouth, Devon, The Beatles climbed into a car to avoid attention - only to be greeted at their destination by about 400 well-informed local fans. An impromptu press conference followed - while Neil organized everyone's accommodation and plans were hatched for the next day.

This date in 1964 saw the $150,000 gig. That's what Kansas City Athletics owner Charles O. Finley paid out of his own pocket to persuade The Beatles to add a date to their packed schedule. Instead of a day off in New Orleans, they performed at his baseball team's Municipal Stadium.
